The new Cyclone BBC hosted the University City Lions at LSP on a beautiful Saturday
afternoon in the Cyclone club's inaugural matches for a St. Patrick's Day exhibition
game. Both matches were close with several momentum changes throughout the
afternoon.
The Perfectos struck first with four quick tallies in the bottom of the first frame with
aces by Shutterbug, Bookworm, Wheels, and Sting. Fine defense ruled the rest of the
first match as both teams managed just a conbined 4 aces. The Cyclone BBC held on
to win 7 - 2.
The second match became a much more high scoring affair with the matcha wide
open 6 - 6 after three frames. The teams traded aces for the next f frames with the
Cyclone BBC coming out on top 13 - 10. All but one Cyclone was able to ring the tally
bell during one of the matches on this fine afternoon.
15 March 2009 - Perfectos vs Unions - St. Patrick's Day Match
The Perefectos opened their 2009 campaign with a friendly exhibition against their
cross town rivals the St. Louis Unions yesterday. Luckily for the Perfectos, no score
was kept. It was a day to work out cobwebs and try out new positions. Many Perfectos
showed promise at new fielding positions including Chatterbox and Moonshine as
corner basemen. "Many of today's gaffes could be chalked up to getting the hands in
shape for the upcoming season," stated acting captain Doc Yemm. Among the bright
spots for the day was the hurling of Danger Pellegrino. "Mr Pellegrino kept the hot hit
balls to a minimum today, but we just didn't make many of the plays that we are
accustomed to making, " reported Yemm. At the bat, Yemm had the big highlight of the
day with a homerun in the first match.
The Perfectos visited Fox Park in South Saint Louis today to demonstrate the vintage
game at a youth baseball tournament. The team was well received and the
youngsters enjoyed getting a chance to try out playing the "New York style" game. "The
squad has been invited back later in the summer and we hope to strike up a new
relationship with this group," stated Doc Yemm
The Perfectos travel to Wright City in April to help them kick off their inaugural
campaign. "We have been warned that this is a young, hungry squad and we will have
to bring our best game to be competitive," Mr. Yemm reports. "We also look forward to
the upcoming wine tasting on May 9, 2009 as a chance to meet the spectators and
spread the word about base ball."
