2009 Game Highlights
St. Louis Perfectos Base Ball Club
Barclay Festival Successful
Nobody was the big bug at this year's Shepard Barclay Festival.
The annual event, held June 6-7 in Lafayette Park, provided a number of highlights for
all five clubs who participated in the event. None of the five teams went undefeated in
the event. Following are the results by match:

Rock Springs Ground Squirrels 9, University City Lions 4
St. Louis Unions 9, Lafayette Square Cyclone BBC 1

Of the GSLBBHS squads, the veteran Perfectos won two and lost two in their first real
action of the season. The Perfectos outscored the University City Lions and the Rock
Springs Ground Squirrels, but lost twice to the St. Louis Unions. Mark "King" Kennedy
and Tony "Danger" Pellegrino hurled for the veteran club. The Perfectos benefitted
from a heavy-hitting veteran-filled lineup with most ballists sending the ball into the
garden. Those with howitzer shots included Captain Ed "Cyclone" Pfeffer, Brad
"Chatterbox" Waller, Tony "Danger" Pellegrino, Josh "Jericho" Amato, Ted "Doc"
Yemm, Karl "Moonshine" Krekeler and Tony "Lightning" Wicker. Additionally, the
Perfectos turned in some stunning defensive plays at times.
The Lafayette Square Cyclone BBC, making its debut, lost all four of its matches,
dropping two to the University City Lions. The Rock Springs Ground Squirrels and St.
Louis Unions beat the Cyclone BBC one time each. There were a number of
highlights for the Cyclone BBC. Veteran ballist Sumner "Moose" Hunnewell tallied the
first ace for the new club, late in the 9-1 loss to the Unions. Mark "Wheels" Olmsted
recorded the ASH (Ace Struck Home) to plate Moose. Gary "Chuck Wagon" Kryvko
hurled the first match for the Cyclone BBC and shared hurling time during the
weekend with newcomer Jonathan "Charlie Brown" Farris. While the Cyclone BBC
came close to victory, it could not pull off its first win.
The Rock Springs Ground Squirrels made the longest trek of any club, venturing from
their den in Decatur, Ill. The Squirrels looked very fierce on Saturday in wins over the
St. Louis Union and reigning Missouri Cup champion University City Lions. After a
setback against the Perfectos on a hot Sunday afternoon, the Ground Squirrels held
on to edge the Cyclone BBC by a single ace despite a lengthy lightning delay which
cleared out most of the cranks. Overall, they went 3-1.
The Unions had equal success over the weekend with a 3-1 record. The club,
captained by former Perfecto Matt "Mayhem" Moushey, won three of its four matches
during the two days of the festival. The Unions swatted the Perfectos twice and beat
the Lafayette Square Cyclone BBC once. The lone blot on the slate was a loss to the
Ground Squrirels.
The Lions, borrowing ballists throughout the weekend, went 2-2 with wins over the
Cyclone BBC. The Lions fell to both the Perfectos and Ground Squirrels.
Overall, the event was a major success. The GSLBBHS squads were able to
reconnect with the traditionally loyal cranks and introduce the vintage game to many
people new to the experience.
