It's hard to attend a St. Louis Perfectos match without getting to know Brad
"Chatterbox" Waller. The tall, outgoing ballist has more than earned his
nickname by constantly talking to whoever will listen, be it cranks, other
ballists or even the umpire. Waller has earned more than his share of fines
for his talking ability, but excels in keeping the cranks entertained. Waller, a
former U.S. Navy man who has his old ship, the USS Mississippi (CGN-40)
on his bat, has played a number of different positions since joining the
team in 2005. Chatterbox has played hurler, behind, third tender, second
tender and different scout positions for the club. From Fenton, Waller played
Little League baseball as a youth. He found out about the Perfectos from a
friend. "A friend of mine suggested I play," said Waller. "I am a History Buff.
Perfect fit." Chatterbox nearly became "Two Finger" Waller after a work
accident crushed fingers in 2006. However, he has worked hard to
rehabilitate his injured digits after the doctors put them back together. He
was able to return to action early in 2007. Waller enjoys the location and
atmosphere of Lafayette Park. He also enjoys having his photograph taken
with the ladies. One of his highlights of the 2007 season was having his
photo taken at the Fruin Festival with a couple of Saint Louis University
nursing students. Another highlight was the team's Chocolate Nacho night
at the 2007 Ohio Cup. Waller said he enjoys playing in Atwood, Ill., as well.
In addition to his on-field antics, Waller is in his second term as the team's
treasurer.
