Gary "Chuckwagon" Kryvko
The Vinatge Game
Lafayette Park
St. Louis Perfectos Base Ball Club
How does a ballist from Chicago come to play for a St. Louis team? In the
case of Gary "Chuck Wagon" Kryvko, research and kindness did the deed. "I
saw an article in American Heritage about vintage base ball and sought out
the local team," said Kryvko. "After watching for one afternoon, I was hooked
on the idea. Everyone was very welcoming. Moose even offered me tickets
to the Grizzlies that he couldn't use that night." Since that time, in 2005,
Chuck Wagon has been a part of many Perfectos adventures. One of those
adventures involved getting his nickname. "Danger said he always thought
we should have a Chuckwagon," Gary said. "I claimed it and lengthened it
to Chuck Wagon. Chatterbox is angling to get that changed to Lumberjack,
because I swing the Cap Anson bat." Originally from the Windy City, Kryvko
played pickup games in the park and in high school in his younger years.
Chuck Wagon's favorite experiences as a Perfecto: "Watching Cyclone and
Chatterbox fly all over the field," Kryvko said. "Listening to Scribe Slover
describe the game to the cranks. Being a part of the efforts of all of the
team." "Everyone seems to be having a good time," Kryvko said about
Lafayette Park. "There's a lot ofsupport." Besides Lafayette Park, Chuck
Wagon said he enjoys playing in Murpysboro, Illinois, Florissant and Cuba.
Kryvko is happy with playing vintage base ball with the Perfectos. "I enjoy
vintage baseball because it combines my interests in both baseball and
history," he said. "I also like being out in the sun playing ball."
