Frank "Peg Leg" Frederick
St. Louis Perfectos Base Ball Club
|
Frank "Peg Leg" Frederick might not be a superstar on the field. But he has
proven to be one of the team's most valuable players off of it. Frederick usually can
be found cavorting with the cranks during matches, home or away, spreading the
gospel of vintage base ball. "I enjoy vintage baseball because:It lets me play the
game and show cranks how the game has moved forward," Peg Leg said. Frederick
usually plays second tender or behind in matches, but he also has served the club
in the role of ambassador, umpire and tally keeper. Frederick has organized some of
the club's charity matches in Illinois during recent years. Peg Leg has been with the
Perfectos since the 2004 season and is entering his fourth year with the club in
2008. Frederick played grade
school baseball and spent two
years in the American Legion
system before coming to the
Perfectos. He said his
brother-in-law had a party and
that's where he found out about
the club. Frederick said he enjoys
playing in Decatur, Ill., and
Clinton, Ill., and those sites are his
favorite locations other than Lafayette
Park. Peg Leg has learned to deal
with some fame. He said after a St. Louis Cardinals game, he was walking after the
contest. Someone drove by and shouted "Hey Peg Leg!"
