Ryan "River Rat" Melson
St. Louis Perfectos Base Ball Club
|
If you've been to a St. Louis Perfectos vintage base ball game, it's likely that
you've seen Ryan "River Rat" Melson in action out in the garden. Ryan is
one of the longest serving Perfectos players, joining the team in its first
year. Melson is the son-in-law of Rick "Sting" Rea and frequently makes
Perfectos games into family outings. In fact, Rea convinced Melson to join
the Perfectos. Prior to coming to the Perfectos, Melson played Little League,
Pony League and high school baseball. A native of Fairdealing, Missouri, in
Ripley County, Melson said any close contest is his favorite experience with
the club. Melson enjoys vintage base ball because of uniqueness of the
game and the sportsmanship. He feels Lafayette Park is the best place for
vintage base ball. "Our field is the best hands down and the cranks are
great as well," River Rat said. Melson also enjoys playing in Illinois venues
with Decatur and Murphysboro being among his favorites.
