Rick "Sting" Rea
St. Louis Perfectos Base Ball Club

Sometimes, cranks will be treated to the sight of a member of the St. Louis
Perfectos chugging around the bases like a steam engine. Rick "Sting" Rea
has been known to smoke a cigar while playing for the club he's been a
member of since its inception back in 2002. Rea, who is most at home
around the first or third base, comes from Dutchtown. Growing up, he
played some Little League baseball and a lot of sandlot ball. Sting found
out about the Perfectos at the annual St. Louis Cardinals Winter Warm Up
event and became an inaugural player with the team (or, as Brad
"Chatterbox" Waller might say, a plank owner). Rea has been a fixture for
the club ever since. "I enjoy vintage baseball because of all the great folks
you meet on and off the field," Rea stated. But Rea's contributions haven't
just been on the field. He has held multiple offices on the executive board.
Also, he has been one of the team's longtime umpires under the guise of
"Righteous Richard." And he has been a traveling ambassador for the club,
appearing at many events to teach the young and young at heart about the
vintage base ball game. Rea has had many great expeirences with the
club. "Three Huzzahs and shaking hands after every match," Rea said
about one of his favorite activities. He also enjoys the donations to Shriners
Hospital for Children. Rea feels Lafayette Park is a great venue for the
Perfectos. "It has a great historical setting," Sting said. "It was the home
field for the 1860 St. Louis Cyclone Base Ball Club, and there is great
support from the neighborhood." When Rea has to play matches away from
Lafayette Park, his favorite venues are in Decatur, Ill., and Columbus, Ohio.
"I enjoy Beautifultrobaughfield (home of the Rock Springs Ground Squirrels)
because I get to see our good friends the Ground Squirrels," said Rea.
"Muffin Meadow (at Ohio Village) tain’t bad either."
